Dominica has been dubbed as the “Whale Watching Capital of The Eastern Caribbean.
Giant Sperm Whales reside in our waters and can be seen year round.

Next to Diving, Whale watching is the most popular water sports activity on the island
Operators generally have an 80% success rate in seeing whales or dolphins.
Boats are equipped with hydro - phones which are used to track the movement of the whales.
Whale and dolphin safaris depart at 2 pm Sundays,and Wednesdays.

Sperm Whales are often seen, mating and tending to their young.
Other whales which visit our shores are: Short-finned Pilot, Pygmy Sperm, False Killer, Dwarf Sperm Whales, Beaked Whales, False Killer Whales, Right Whales and the occasional Orca (Killer Whale).

Whale watching is a year-round activity in Dominica.
Other species of cetaceans seen in our waters include: Spotted, Spinner, Fraser, Bottle nosed, Striped and Common dolphins.

Thirty three species of Marine Mammals have been sighted in the wider Caribbean, including whales, dolphins and the West Indian Manatee. Below are photos and descriptions of the ones sometimes seen in the Dominican waters.
